What is GHOST ? It stands for "General Hardware Oriented System Transfer" and it is a utility program that Symantec  purchased a few years back.

What does GHOST do? As a system integrator it has been the single greatest tool  we have ever used.  We create a boot disk with GHOST on it and it allows us to completely transfer the contents of one drive to another without having to worry about operating system constraints. It does this as a binary image.  While transferring it partitions and formats the drive. So if you have an existing drive and a bare new drive and hook them up into the same system, GHOST will duplicate the contents for you to the new bare drive without having to FDISK or Format. It will also allow you to resize the partition on the fly.

This program is for me, where do I get it? Chinook Computers & Graphics will be only too happy to sell you a copy, or you can hunt around your local computer store for a copy or you can purchase it online from Symantec.

What versions of GHOST are out there?  The current version  is called Norton Ghost 2001 V6.5 and should retail for around $102.00 CDN.  There is an upgrade version for about $71.00 CDN.  The best deal is to buy Norton SystemWorks 2001 Professional Edition because it includes GHOST and of course the other stuff that comes with it. It should retail for about $155.00 CDN.  Beware you don't buy the non-pro version of SystemWorks as it doesn't include GHOST.
